Social media marketing is all the rage. Big businesses throughout the country employ social media experts to interact with Facebook, Twitter, and Google Plus users, post status updates, and generate interest in specific products and services. If Wal-Mart, Bank of America, and Verizon Wireless are using social media like Google Plus, it’s safe to say they have a good reason for doing so. Just as Google Plus helps multinational corporations market products and understand consumer behavior, it can do the same for a dental practice.
When Google first launched Google Plus, many techies and social media experts believed the new social media platform wouldn’t be able to hold its own against Facebook and Twitter. Some believed Google Plus would fade into the distance. Although Google Plus was slow to catch on among internet users at the beginning, the social media platform is gaining popularity quickly.
Google Plus Statistics
- In December of 2011, Google Plus had over 20 million new visitors in one month.
- Google Plus has more accounts than Twitter and LinkedIn users combined.
- Roughly 50 million Google Plus accounts are used daily
Unique Google Plus Features
Circles – You can place friends, coworkers, patients, staff, and family members in their own respective “circles” on your Google Plus business page. This allows you to post relevant information to a specific audience or easily hide personal posts that are intended for close friends only.
Game applications are separate – Are you tired of social media gamers cluttering your newsfeed? Google Plus places gaming as a separate feature. If you don’t use social media games, you won’t be bombarded with updates or invitations to play them.
No Length Restrictions – Google Plus does not restrict post length like Facebook and Twitter do. However, in most cases it’s best to keep marketing posts short and concise.
It looks like Google Plus is here to stay and just might surpass Twitter in popularity. We encourage dentists to reach out to your social media savvy patients with a Google Plus business page. Click here to learn more or set up an account.
